{"id":5,"date":"2019-12-27T15:05:16","date_gmt":"2019-12-27T22:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2020.calgary.wordcamp.org\/?p=5"},"modified":"2019-12-27T15:15:05","modified_gmt":"2019-12-27T22:15:05","slug":"call-for-speakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calgary.wordcamp.org\/2020\/call-for-speakers\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Speakers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We&#8217;re so excited to announce that speaker applications for WordCamp Calgary 2020 are open!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Become a WordCamp Calgary 2020 Speaker!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2020 edition of WordCamp Calgary will once again take place at Fort Calgary in downtown on May 29-30, 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/2020.calgary.wordcamp.org\/become-a-speaker\/\">Apply Now<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, we made great progress towards diversifying our speaker roster and we want to continue to encourage and cultivate a diverse set of speakers that reflect our diverse community! Even if you&#8217;ve never spoken before, <strong>please apply<\/strong>, we&#8217;d love to see more of you become WordCamp Calgary speakers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background has-white-color has-secondary-background-color\">If you\u2019re feeling unsure and identify as a member of an underrepresented group and want to learn more before applying, come to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/The-Calgary-WordPress-Meetup-Group\/events\/266831051\/\">Diverse Speaker Training session<\/a> being held on February 12, 2020 through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/The-Calgary-WordPress-Meetup-Group\">Calgary WordPress Meetup Group<\/a>! For more information, get in touch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important information to keep in mind<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All WordPressers are welcome to apply: in the past our attendees have been a mixture of beginners learning about WordPress, business owners, freelancers, and some advanced developers. Consider this mixture of audience as you prepare your pitch for WordCamp Calgary 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team will be carefully considering all the talks submitted to make sure we have a well balanced schedule that appeals to the different types of attendees WordCamp Calgary draws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Session Formats<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>WordCamp Calgary 2020 will feature sessions in 3 different formats:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Regular talks:<\/strong> 40-45 minutes talks with 10-15 at the end for Q&amp;A<\/li><li><strong>Lightning talks:<\/strong> 20 minutes each, with an optional 5 minute Q&amp;A<\/li><li><strong>Workshops:<\/strong> 2 hour long hands-on workshops where attendees walk away having created or built something.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re feeling tempted to apply but can\u2019t quite decide on a topic, don\u2019t worry \u2013 you can send multiple pitches for sessions (one pitch per submission, submit as many times as you like). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overall, we&#8217;d recommend narrowing your pitches down to 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application timeline:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>December 22, 2019:<\/strong> Call for Speakers opens<\/li><li><strong>February 29, 2020: <\/strong>Call for Speakers closes<\/li><li><strong>March 2020:<\/strong> Speakers contacted<\/li><li><strong>April-May 2020:<\/strong> Speakers announced<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/2020.calgary.wordcamp.org\/become-a-speaker\/\">Apply Now<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Call for Speakers is officially open for WordCamp Calgary 2020.
